Two Italians suspected of fraud and gold smuggling were arrested today in Albania. According to a statement from the Albanian police, F.M, 67 years old living in Naples, and R.G 76 years old from Milan, allegedly sold gold with a lower purity than what they presented at the beginning of the negotiations to local goldsmiths.
For two months the Italians, arrested in the city of Elbasan, about 30 kilometers east of Tirana, would also have acted between Montenegro and Albania, making sales for a total of about 200 thousand euros. At the time of their arrest, the officers seized 160 grams of pure gold, 3 kilos of mixed gold, as well as four cell phones.
